Training and Education

SMU is currently the only university in Singapore to be accredited as a Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training centre by Singapore Resuscitation & First Aid (SRFAC).

The SMU Office of Safety & Security (OSS) conducts safety-related training, reviews safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) and performance standards, and provides advice on safety management matters. The team also manages Campus Security, Workplace Safety & Health, Fire Safety as well as engages relevant internal and external stakeholders to enhance organisational resilience and security. 

The team also organises and conducts the following lifesaving training programmes:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation & Automated External Defibrillator (CPR+AED) Certification
  • Standard First Aid Certification (in collaboration with a training partner)
  • First Aid Refresher Workshops

Beyond lifesaving training programmes, the OSS team also conducts safety & risk management programmes for the SMU community:

  • Risk Assessment & Management Systems Workshop for Student Leaders
  • Risk Assessment & Management Systems (RAMS) for Student Events Organising Committees
  • Develop a Risk Management Implementation Plan (accredited by Workplace Safety & Health Council (WSHC))
  • Basic Emergency Management Workshop for Overseas Community Service Project (OCSP) groups
