Programme
Short-Term Study Programme (SSP) to Xiamen University, China
Q) What motivated you to participate in this programme (2–3 sentences)?
A) The programme duration is just nice, not too long or short. The country (Xiamen) was also an ideal location that I have never been to and am curious to learn about its culture.
Q) Please describe your overall experience (2–3 sentences).
A) Amazing experience, I learnt so much from the lectures, workshops and travelling around the city. I had a lot of fun with the schoolmates I met on the trip and became friends with them even after the trip ended. Definitely would recommend to those who wants to go on an exchange trip but find 3 months too long.
Q) In what ways did this experience add value to your SMU education and/or professional development (2–3 sentences)?
A) The in-depth knowledge about China and Xiamen has enable me to expand my horizon and gave me more alternatives in terms of setting China as one other country that I can consider to further my studies or work in (in the future).
Q) Why Asia? What advice would you give to juniors or fellow students who are considering a similar experience (2–3 sentences)?
A) I feel like Asia is a good starting point as the cultural differences are not too different and its easier to spot similarities for forging friendships with others that are close to Singapore. I would advise them to enjoy the process, travel as you study and immerse yourself in the country to get the best experience possible. (Try new foods, try activities and keep your mind open).
