Ted Teo Kah Hsuen

Name of activity/programme/experience
Korea University Winter Campus
What motivated you to participate in this programme/activity?

I had never visited Korea before and was interested in experiencing what living in a different country would be like. This programme offered a great opportunity to learn in a reputable university while gaining first-hand exposure to Korean society and culture.

Please describe your overall experience.

It was a fun and enjoyable experience where I visited many attractions and tried a wide variety of Korean food. Eating hot fish cake soup along the street in the cold weather was particularly memorable. The class I took on Korean history and culture gave me unique insights that allowed me to better understand Korea beyond the typical tourist perspective.

In what ways did this experience add value to your SMU education and/or professional development?

Studying in a new learning environment challenged me to adapt and be more open to new ways of thinking. Interacting with international students further broadened my perspectives and helped me analyse issues from multiple viewpoints.

Why Asia? What advice would you give to juniors or fellow students who are considering a similar experience?

Asia is a diverse continent with a wide variety of cultural experiences that are relatively accessible from Singapore. Going with friends can make the experience even more fun and memorable, as you can explore the city and try new foods together.
