Name of activity/programme/experience
Corporate Communication SMU-XO, USA
Name of activity/programme/experience

SMU-X Overseas courses under the corporate communication major:

  1. COMM320: Business narratives for Asian organizations
  2. COMM361: The Business of the Creative Industries
What motivated you to participate in this programme/activity?

Prior to launching SMU-X Overseas courses, I had led several business study missions to New York City and Los Angeles. On these study missions, I had witnessed and read about the transformational impact these overseas study trips can have on students. SMU-X Overseas course gives me the opportunity to combine the study mission's company visits and cultural immersion with real-world industry projects - it is irresistible!

Please describe your overall experience.

In what ways did this experience add value to your SMU education and/or professional development?

It has dramatically increased my contextual knowledge of how market, cultural, and social backgrounds impact solutions to a company's challenges. This nuanced, firsthand contextual knowledge is something AI cannot replicate (yet).

Why Asia? What advice would you give to students who are considering a similar experience?

Asia is where many of the most exciting developments in business, tech, and culture are taking place. Expand your worldview and make new memories!
