Real Estate Study Trip to Tokyo - 2024
What motivated you to enrol in this course?
I was a freshman looking to gain more experience as I only recently graduated from Junior College back then and was not exposed to any overseas study trips before. The destination to Japan was also one of my places of interest so I was really keen on applying for this Study Trip.
Please describe your overall experience.
The overall experience was enriching, insightful, inspiring and motivating. I gained insights into the Real Estate ecosystem in Japan and realised that Real Estate was more than just tenant and landlord. I also had the privilege to visit different sites, including offices, warehouses and hotels which was immensely eye-opening as we were brought around by passionate individuals who provided detailed explanations for the site in view. I learned things I never would have if I had stayed within the confines of the classroom.
In what ways did this experience add value to your SMU education and/or professional development?
This experience contributed the most in my choice of the Real Estate track under Finance major (not yet declared but most likely will). It also inspired me to pursue an internship in the related field which commences this May for me.
Why Asia? What advice would you give to juniors or fellow students who are considering a similar experience?
Asia is considered safer and relatively affordable as compared to other countries such as Europe. For those who are looking to gain exposure outside of Singapore but not sure where to start with, our neighbours within Asia are good choices to explore. Advice: Don't be limited to what you think you already know, just put yourself out there, at least once in your life, to gain that unforgettable experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
