Fujitsu-SMU Urban Computing and Engineering (UNiCEN) Corp. Lab. as part of CoE.
Jan - Mar
UNiCEN team started its operation at SMU Labs with 12 SMU headcounts
(3 faculty, 6 researchers and 3 Admin staff).
Ryoichi Yamaura from Fujitsu Limited – Japan joined UNiCEN as Co-Lab Director. Shortly another 3 members from Fujitsu Japan joined to build up Fujitsu’s team.

Official commencement of the Dynamic Mobility Management (DMM) and Maritime & Port Optimisation (MPO) research works - active engagement and recruitment of potential research partners & research team and growth of research capabilities.
CoE partnered with Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre to develop an integrated crowd management solution.

CoE collaborated with Jurong Port to develop smart port operation solutions to optimize and improve port operations.
A shared research infrastructure known as Urban Computing Platform (UCP)
was launched for researchers.
UNiCEN conferred the 1st PhD scholarship to Tanvi Verma and engaged SIS undergraduate students for summer internship.

Together with DHL-SMU Green Transformation Lab (GTL), UNiCEN organised the Logistics & Supply Chain Symposium featuring speakers from global & local logistics and technology organisations.

UNiCEN worked with Y3 Technologies Pte Ltd to develop a market-driven auction mechanism to match shippers and carriers to optimise their last mile logistics.

UNiCEN MPO team completed the collaborative last-mile logistic project with Y3 Technologies as planned. Y3 Technologies subsequently incorporated our auction engine on their new logistic platform – Quick!E.
A tripartite cooperation agreement with Chongqing University and Y3 Technologies to cooperate on project, scientific research and talent development related to urban logistics.

DMM team launched the Driver Guidance System (DGS) trial with local taxi drivers. Based on the results collected over the past months, drivers achieved 27% reduction in empty cruising time after using DGS.
UNiCEN worked with Strides Transportation to develop a ride sharing bus service which aims to match demand and supply dynamically.

Together with Fujitsu Limited and A*Star, UNiCEN on behalf of SMU signed a Memorandum of Intent with Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to develop a solution to optimize deliveries into malls, Offsite Consolidation Centres, and any participating industrial facilities or drop-off points.
The DGS project team won the top prize for the DataSpark Mobility Open-Task Challenge under the CIKM AnalytiCup 2017.

DMM team completed & delivered the Crowd Simulator for management of crowd in large facility after successfully tested during IT Fair in Nov 2017 and MotorShow in Jan 2018.

The SCD team comprising of researchers from SMU, A*Star and Fujitsu collaborated with a local large logistic company to develop solution to address the challenge of e-commerce fulfilment and last-mile crowd sourced delivery.

UNiCEN collaborated with an established security institution to develop a system that is capable in analyzing data and generating dynamic yet optimal resource deployment plans while maintaining response time standards.

The SCD team completed the development and field trial of the crowdsourced logistics software with UrbanFox.
UNiCEN showcased the public security project (GRAND-VISION) at the Interpol World 2019 held in Singapore.

Fujitsu Limited, the Singapore Management University and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)’s Institute of High Performance Computing officially launched the Digital Platform Experimentation Project.
The project taps on the CoE’s research and development capabilities to implement Fujitsu technologies and accelerate the development of commercial applications using high performance optimization. This will further establish Fujitsu’s global quantum-inspired and artificial intelligence (AI) eco-system, with the SMU installation marking the first-in-the-world on-premises deployment of the Fujitsu Digital Annealer platform.

SMU worked with AI Singapore to deploy the CUDO portal and optimization engine in the AISG Makerspace where interested parties such as SMEs can test and assess CUDO technology for commercialization.
