Business Study Mission to India (Mumbai)
What motivated you to participate in this programme/activity?
Motivation? I went to Nepal to hike before my time in SMU! That really exposed me to the political and social complexities of the region. When I first came to SMU I also met Indian friends who encouraged me to explore India!
Please describe your overall experience.
I would say my overall experience of India is similar some of the dishes we tried. I used to think of India as one big place, but now I realised there's diversity and cultural differences in all areas of life.
In what ways did this experience add value to your SMU education and/or professional development?
One of the take homes is the can-do spirit. I may not have to full skillsets, I may not have all the resources, but I'm willing to innovate and bootstrap to create solutions or services work!
Why Asia? What advice would you give to juniors or fellow students who are considering a similar experience?
Why Asia? We are blessed in Singapore to have people from all around the region, but we see a very small glimpse of the heritage, history, cultural depthness, language, of all the peoples!
To my juniors, please take the opportunity to ask questions, discover the complexities of where people come from, where their beliefs arose from, where their history comes from, and how that shapes yours friends (or even you) to the people we are today.
