SMU Certificate in IT Infrastructure & Operations Management (IBF Level 1)

Emergence of non-bank service providers is disrupting the business models of incumbent banks. Banks have responded by embarking on initiatives to digitize the banking infrastructure, distribution channels and services.

To be future ready, professionals in Technology & Operations (T&O) need to be multi-disciplinary and possess the ability to combine strong domain knowledge in products, processes and business development, with the functional skills in technology.

Benchmarked to industry best practices under the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) Standards for T&O, the SMU Certificate in IT Infrastructure & Operations Management (IBF Level 1) provides an understanding  of data centre infrastructure facilities, servers, network and infrastructure administration including how to perform IT service management to resolve client technical issues.

Network, Server & Infrastructure Administration

  • Setting network baseline standards
  • Functions of network infrastructure components (Firewall, proxy,  load balancer, DNS, etc.)
  • Network virtualization, access & interfaces
  • Consideration for selection of server solutions
  • Key components of system administration
  • Use of cloud architecture & implications on design & operations
  • Common platforms & OS used in FIs
  • Network-related controls relevant to FIs

Network, Server & Infrastructure Administration

  • Common desktop management tasks
  • Installation, configuration & upgrading server & network devices
  • Managing IT traffic & impact on business
  • Identification of thresholds, Quality of Service (QoS) & tools for monitoring
