SMU-SAF Partnership

The SMU-SAF partnership began with the creation of SMU Warriors Scholarship (SWS) in 2014, to show appreciation and recognition to our military officers for their commitment and dedication to the nation. Retiring and eligible SAF officers can choose to enroll in one of the SMU Master degree programmes. The aim of the scholarship is to equip SAF military servicemen with advanced knowledge and skills to help them successfully transit from military service to a second career. We are very glad to see many SWS graduates transit into good careers.

The initial Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 14 January 2014 between SMU’s President, Professor Arnoud De Meyer and the then Chief of Defence Force MG Ng Chee Meng for three years from 2014 to 2016.  The agreement is subsequently extended for another three years from 2017 to 2019, offering a total of 20 scholarships.

A further partnership agreement is entered into with SAFTI MI.  The SAF has been investing in the training of  its talents.  They have extended their scholarship offerings to the SAF officers who have completed the rigorous  41 weeks executive training programme at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College, SAFTI MI, to pursue four Postgraduate degrees at SMU under the SAF’s Continuing Education (CE) Master’s Sponsorship programme. Eligible SAF officers can now choose to pursue SMU’s MSc in Communication Management, MSc in Innovation, Master of Information Technology in Business – Analytics and Master of Tri-Sector Collaboration.
