International students play an important role in contributing to the multi-cultural character of SMU.
This diverse university population contributes significantly to cross-cultural understanding and allows for a deeper awareness of world issues.
The Office of Global Learning annually plans a series of social and recreational programmes to engage our international students. These activities provide opportunities for integration with the university community and are aimed at enhancing the student experience.
International and exchange students are in for a special treat, as the International Student Experience team at the Office of Global Learning and student group SMU International Connections (SMU ICON) organise events and programmes specially designed to get you acquainted with Singapore and SMU! Most of these programmes are complimentary.
Freshmen Orientation Camp essentially marks the beginning of university life, comprising a lot of fun, laughter, mud, and a whole load of team-building activities. All freshmen are required to attend Freshmen Orientation Camp, which also aims to introduce SMU's core values of Commitment, Integrity, Responsibility, Collegiality, Leadership and Excellence (CIRCLE) to you. Over three days and two nights, friendships are formed, leadership skills gained and the collegial spirit takes root.
