I have been working in the areas of Children & Youth and family service for over 20 years. I received my first degree in Social Work, Master’s degree in Counselling from The University of Hong Kong and my doctoral degree from the University of Technology, Sydney. I am also a Certified Solution Focused Therapist and I believe that every individual has his/her strengths in dealing with problems and difficulties. Apart from counselling practice, I was also a part-time lecturer that provided on-site training and teaching for degree and master level students in social work and counselling practice.
Additionally, I have professional memberships with the American Counselling Association and with the Singapore Association of Counselling.

Prior to SMU, I have worked with a broad range of issues and individuals, ranging from school drop-outs & inhalant-abusers to ex-offenders and people with addictions, as well as with couples and families. I am trained in the psychodynamic framework and expressive therapies, and my current area of specialty involves the integration of mindfulness in the therapeutic setting, which has drastically changed the way I interact and work with my clients. I am trained and qualified to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) by the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and the Mindfulness Training Institute of Australia, and have been running mindfulness-based courses and training since.
Counsellor – Steven Ng, MCouns, BA, DISE, CIA
Having served in social service sector for over a decade, helping people to fulfil their true potential has always been my passion. As a NIE trained educator and counsellor, I believe in the holistic importance of education for the individual and the positive impact it has to the society as a whole. I am a trained Crisis Responder with National Organisation for Victim Assistance (USA), certified Stress Management Consultant with Institute of Motivational Living (USA), and Job Career Development Coach with Career Planning & Adult Development Network (USA).
My working experience includes enabling diverse groups of people such as teachers, parents and students to overcome various challenges faced. I have conducted research in the areas of counselling referral and relationships amongst students with special needs. When diversity and inclusion are embraced, I believe the individual will be able to handle any challenges with the support and acceptance received.
Counsellor – Wesley Sng, MSocSc (Counselling)
A father of four teenage boys, has been working extensively with youth and young adults for the past twenty-two years.
Using a practical approach that is both evidence-based and client-driven, Wesley strives to draw from variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused-Based Therapy (SFBT) into his sessions.
He holds a master degree in professional counselling and a diploma in holistic counselling in schools. He is a trained Crisis Responder with National Organisation for Victim Assistance (USA), Job Career Development Coach with Career Planning & Adult Development Network (USA) and certified Peer Program Educator by National Association of Peer Programme Professionals (USA).
