SMU LifeLessons

SMU LifeLessons® is a transformative learning framework developed by the Co-Curriculum Development team at the Office of Dean of Students, that aims to help students uncover and articulate their personal values and purpose, and to prepare them to be their best for others.

Students are encouraged to use the free tools provided, such as the SMU LifeLessons Pathfinder Journal and Rubric for their own reflection and learning. They may also engage in 'SMU LifeLessons experiences' through the various team-building and leadership development platforms facilitated within their CCA and community service groups.

SMU Pathfinders Programme comprises a series of platforms that engage students leaders in deeper reflective enquiry and cross-disciplinary conversation about what it means to be exemplary in their respective teams, communities, and fields. It will be a 4-year modular journey that runs in tandem with academic and co-curricular learning, and will be focused on topics regarding the Self, the Self and the Team, and the Self and the Community.

Students seeking leadership, helping or advising positions in their chosen CCA and community service groups will have the opportunity to register for the Programme as part of their existing respective training pathways. The SMU Pathfinders Programme is generously supported by Mr Kuok Khoon Ean.

Mr Kuok Khoon Ean is currently the Chairman of Kuok (Singapore) Limited and a Director of Kerry Group Limited and Kerry Holdings Limited, Hong Kong. He was a member of SMU's first Board of Trustees and is a long-term friend and supporter of the SMU Community. The SMU Pathfinders Programmes seeks to realise Mr Kuok's vision of developing the next generations of youth leaders who, not only have the resilience and tenacity to lead, but who are also mindful of the values that shape their decisions and actions. This endeavour aligns with SMU Vision 2025, which aims to provide a transformative education that will encourage our students to go beyond discovering their own values, paths and purpose, to guide, transform and inspire others to discover theirs.
