About the SMU Areas of Excellence
Real-world opportunities and problems are often multi-faceted, which is why SMU adopts interdisciplinary approaches to solve challenges for society through the Areas of Excellence, where the scope goes beyond any research project, school, institute, centre or degree programme.
Each Area of Excellence creates value for a diverse range of stakeholders through integrating multidisciplinary research, teaching & knowledge transfer, and outreach & collaboration.
The organizing themes for the three Areas of Excellence include:
- Analytics for Business, Consumer and Social Insights
- Finance and Financial Markets
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Being located in Singapore and the heart of Asia, we apply our knowledge and global perspectives in an Asian context to bridge concepts and provide critical insights into this part of the world. We invite you to explore our works and activities in the SMU Areas of Excellence and beyond.
Powerful new analytics approaches with ‘big data’ are at the heart of emerging organisational capabilities that will become the new norm by 2020. In this Area of Excellence, we explore practical and smarter ways to make sense of data at scale, and to leverage data analytics for improved decision-making, planning and resource allocation.
In global markets, innovation is the foundation of economic growth and entrepreneurship provides the necessary mobilization for economic value creation. This Area of Excellence focuses on building an array of programmes and expertise that support business and market development to complement R&D investments.
Ageing & Healthcare Management
Growing old is as inevitable as the passage of time. But what can we do to make our twilight years a positive and healthy period, rather than one of unavoidable decline? To have a more detailed understanding of Singapore’s ageing situation, SMU has established the Centre for Research on the Economics of Ageing (CREA).
