SMU-Administered Bursaries

For undergraduate students with financial needs, the following bursary schemes are available.


 

CDC/CCC-University Bursary
The CDC/CCC-University Bursary is a scheme for needy Singaporean students. It is co-funded by the Government, Community Development Council (CDC) and Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC).

Quantum Tier 1: $4,000 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Tier 2: $3,750 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Eligibility
  • Full-time subsidised undergraduate student
  • Singapore Citizen
  • Not in receipt scholarship, study award, study grant, and/or bursary covering tuition fees and a monthly/annual living allowance.
  • Tier 1: PCI not exceeding $625 or GHI not exceeding $2,500
  • Tier 2: PCI between $626 and $1,000 or GHI between $2,501 and $4,000
PCI refers to Gross (or Total) Monthly Household Per Capita Income, computed by dividing the Gross Household Income of the members in the household over the number of members in the household.
GHI refers to Gross (or Total) Monthly Household Income of the members in the household.
 
Should a student's household income be worsened due to justifiable unforeseen circumstances (for example, loss of income due to unemployment) after bursary application or award, the student may appeal to be re-assessed of his/her eligibility for a higher quantum government bursary.
Conditions of Award
  • A student must not concurrently receive the CDC/CCC-University Bursary and MOE Bursary.
  • A student in receipt of a partial scholarship may be allowed concurrent receipt with CDC/CCC-University Bursary, subject to terms and conditions of the scholarship award.
Repayment No repayment required. However, the bursary must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws from studies or studies terminated.
Application
  • Apply via student portal, OASIS > Finance & Admin, using student computer account username and password.
  • Bi-annual application exercises (apply once only at one of the 2 application periods):
    - Between 24 March 2017 and 25 August 2017
    - Between 1 November 2017 and 15 December 2017
  • The application exercises are for the same year of award in the academic year the applicants are in active study.
  • The applicant is to submit a new application if he/she wishes to be considered for the bursary again in the subsequent year of study.

MOE Bursary
Funded by the Government, the bursary provides financial assistance to Singaporean students from the lower to middle income groups , as part of the Government's commitment to ensure that no able students are deterred by the cost of post-secondary education due to their financial circumstances.

Quantum Tier 1: $2,700 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Tier 2: $1,350 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Eligibility
  • Full-time subsidised undergraduate student
  • Singapore Citizen
  • Not in receipt scholarship, study award, study grant, and/or bursary covering tuition fees and a monthly/annual living allowance.
  • Tier 1: PCI between $1,001 and $1,725 or GHI between $4,001 and $6,900
  • Tier 2: PCI between $1,726 and $2,250 or GHI between $6,901 and $9,000

SMU Bursary
The scheme is available to needy full-time SMU undergraduate students.

Quantum $1,350 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Eligibility
  • Needy full-time undergraduate student who has used all available loan schemes or subsidies up to 90% of the tuition fees payable by Singaporean students.
  • PCI not exceeding $2,250, GHI not exceeding $9,000, or evidence of family financial difficulties.
  • Student in receipt of scholarship/study award/study grant/bursary may be considered only on a case-by-case basis.
  • Student in receipt of a scholarship/study award/study grant/bursary covering tuition fee and a monthly/annual living allowance is not eligible.

SMU Financial Grant 
The Scheme seeks to assist needy newly admitted undergraduate students in coping with their educational expenses. The bursary is tenable for the recipient's one year of study.

Quantum Tier 1: $1,800 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Tier 2: $1,500 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Tier 3: $1,350 (tenable for 1 year of study)
Eligibility
  • Needy full-time first year undergraduate student who has used all available loan schemes or subsidies up to 90% of the tuition fees payable by Singaporean students.

  • The applicant is to submit a new application if he/she wishes to be considered for bursary award in the subsequent year of study.

Prospective students:

  • Apply via Applicant's Self Service between February and May for studies commencing August of the year of application.
  • Offer to successful applicants is subject to successful matriculation into SMU for commencement of studies in the year of award.
