School of Law Bursary

About the Bursary

Supported by funds contributed by the School's faculty, members of the legal fraternity and the community at large, the School of Law Bursary is available to Bachelor of Laws undergraduates studying full-time at the Singapore Management University.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates from the School of Law
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Active in community service
  • Preference will be given to applicants with gross monthly per capita (average) household income not exceeding $1,900 and/or applicants with evidence of financial hardship


Up to 16 bursaries will be awarded annually commencing Academic Year 2012-13.

Tenure and Benefits

  • Each bursary, valued up to $5,500, is tenable for one year of study.
  • The bursary will go towards funding the recipients' annual tuition fees.
  • The recipients may be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Tuition Grant Scheme

  • The recipients are required to take advantage of the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) provided by the Singapore Government for subsidised education.
  • Under the TGS, non-Singaporean recipients (including Singapore Permanent Residents) will be contractually obliged to work for Singapore-based companies for 3 years upon graduation.


Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.
