Mapletree Bursary

About the Bursary

Established in 2013, the Mapletree Bursary aims to motivate and assist full-time undergraduate students at the Singapore Management University, with demonstrated financial needs, to achieve academic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates enrolled in any degree programme and in any year of study
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • With demonstrated financial needs with gross monthly per capita household income not exceeding $1,700


Four bursaries will be awarded annually and in perpetuity, commencing Academic Year 2013-14.

Tenure and Benefits

  • Each bursary is valued at $7,500 and is tenable for the recipient’s one year of study.
  • The bursary will go towards funding the recipients' annual tuition fees.
  • The recipients may be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.
  • Successful recipients may be granted internship and/or career opportunities with Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd or its designated companies.

Tuition Grant Scheme

  • The recipients are required to take advantage of the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) provided by the Singapore Government for subsidised education.
  • Under the TGS, non-Singaporean recipients (including Singapore Permanent Residents) will be contractually obliged to work for Singapore-based companies for 3 years upon graduation.


Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.
