About the Donor

The bursary is named after Mrs Karen Gan and Mr Joseph Ang in honour of their strong support towards the Donor, Ms Angela Toh, the Founder and Director of AJA Enterprises Pte Ltd (AJA).

Established in 1999 in Singapore, AJA Enterprises first began as a distributor for silicone sealants and aluminium cladding.  It made its entry into the specialised field of blast mitigation systems in the early years after 2000.  Today, AJA is Asia's front-runner specialist for protective engineering, specialising in the design, engineering and integrated installation of blast mitigation solutions and providing clients a comprehensive service chain of R&D, blast simulation, engineering customization, aesthetics and structural adaptation and post-sales consultation.

AJA has garnered a track record of more than 500,000 square feet of blast-mitigated installations.  Its impressive portfolio of projects feature a host of iconic government and institutional buildings in Singapore; these include the Interpol Global Complex, National Gallery Singapore (formerly Singapore's Supreme Court & City Hall) and Changi Prison Headquarters Complex.

Help from fellow entrepreneurs
About 12 to 18 months ago, AJA experienced financial difficulties involving a few million dollars and its continued existence was under threat.  Fellow entrepreneurs Karen and Joseph stepped in to help Angela Toh with advice on management, manpower and cash injections to relieve the cashflow.  With their help, AJA managed to turnaround the company in 12 to 18 months.

In honour of and deep gratitude for their invaluable support and the compelling desire to encourage future entrepreneurs to help one another, Angela Toh decided to establish this perpetual bursary, named "Joseph Ang & Karen Gan Bursary", to help budding entrepreneurs who need financial help in their studies.  Angela Toh would like to call on all successful entrepreneurs to help to rally around fellow entrepreneurs who are upright in their dealings yet face business difficulties and help each other into success.
