Roland Ng Bursary

About the Bursary

Established in 2015, the Roland Ng Bursary is aimed at providing financial assistance to needy full-time undergraduates enrolled into the School of Information Systems at the Singapore Management University. It aims to provide students who are financially-challenged with the necessary assistance so that they can benefit from a well-rounded education despite their constraints.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time first year undergraduates from the School of Information Systems
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Good academic results with active CCA and community involvement records
  • With demonstrated financial needs (gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding $1,900)

Tenure and Benefits

  • Each bursary, valued at $7,500 per year, is tenable for up to four years of study.
  • The bursary will go towards funding the recipients' annual tuition fees.
  • The recipient may be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Tuition Grant Scheme

  • The recipients are required to take advantage of the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) provided by the Singapore Government for subsidised education.
  • Under the TGS, non-Singaporean recipients (including Singapore Permanent Residents) will be contractually obliged to work for Singapore-based companies for 3 years upon graduation.


Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

The Roland Ng Bursary is made possible by Mr Roland Ng. The bursary was established in 2015 to aid three SMU freshmen with financial constraints through their four-year studies at the SMU School of Information Systems. Mr Ng believes strongly in education philanthropy and paying it forward. He hopes that the bursary will provide needy students with access to education.
