Freshmen Team-Building
July & August

As the traditional rite of passage into the SMU fraternity, our Freshmen Team-Building (FTB) Camps are not your usual orientation fare. As its name suggests, FTB Camps immerse freshmen in fun, exuberant and transformative adventures. Freshmen get to experience situational challenges, outdoors elements for self-discovery and participate in team building activities that emphasise the SMU CIRCLE values of commitment; integrity; responsibility; collegiality; leadership and excellence. Over three days and two nights, friendships are formed, leadership skills gained and the collegial spirit takes root.

SMU Peace Day 2007: A fast, a film, a forum and 10 pillars, all for peace

SMU Peace Day is observed on 21 Sep every year, in conjunction with the UN International Day of Peace. It commemorates the spirit of peace among nations, and reinforces the message that peace should not be taken for granted. With the theme of “Peace and Freedom”, Peace Day 2008 saw SMU students creating art canvases that were displayed in a mixed-media art exhibition. Some other event highlights included a film screening on a landmine victim and a former child soldier in Cambodia, and a forum where notable speakers were invited to share their insights on the invisible human trade in Southeast Asia.

Sports Fiesta
September

Sports Fiesta comprises a series of land games and activities such as street-soccer and dodge ball. Usually held at Campus Green, these friendly matches are organised for students to try their hand at the sports in a recreational way. Done ala fiesta style, with shops selling tidbits and the whole place converted into a large playground, this year's event consisted of five main games, as well as an inter-CCA jousting match.

SMU Arts Festival 2008: It's plain non|sense!

The SMU Arts Festival is co-organised by OSL and a student committee helmed by the Arts and Cultural Fraternity(ACF). The SMU Arts Festival 2008 promises to be bigger and better, stretching for two weeks as compared to the normal week-long event. Apart from visual and performance showcases from some of ACF's 25 clubs, the festival will also include prominent local artists and acts, all aimed at instilling a greater sense of awareness of the arts to the SMU community.

Patron's Day
January

SMU celebrates her birthday on Patron's Day, so named because our patron, President SR Nathan, is guest of honour for the day's events. Starting off with a formal segment where scholars and all-rounded students are recognised for their efforts in contributing to CCA, our Patron is then treated to a collage of activities that may range from student performances to mini exhibitions, set around campus in a fiesta-like atmosphere. In essence, Patron's Day celebrates a year wiser for the university.

Waikiki
February

The annual sun, sand and sea event Waikiki, besides promoting sports, is also meant as a get-away-from-mugging breather for students during the mid-term examinations. Highlights of this popular bikini-and-brawns event are Pushball,Ultimate Frisbee and Beach Soccer and Volleyball. So show some skin, rub on some tanning oil, whip out your shades and get ready for some swoon-worthy sights, and, exciting sports of course!

Volar (Adventure Carnival)
April

The name says it all, and you are invited! But not just you - this event is meant for the entire SMU Community - extended family included. So calling one and all - we need you and your family to fill up the banana boats, slip on those rollerblades and wakeboards, and build those sandcastles! Oh, we also need teams for the Adventure Race!
