CAMPUS

RunAbout – SMU's signature team relay event

SMU RunAbout is an annual event co-organised by the SMU RunTeam to foster greater esprit de corps among SMU staff, faculty and students. It's essentially a relay around campus, from the Concourse to Campus Green, and back down via the Big Steps. Of course, these friendly relays can get quite fierce, with schools and CCA especially trying to defend their titles as RunAbout champs. If you're not a runner, no worries, there are prizes for best dressed teams as well!

Dean of Students' Tri-Challenge

Co-organised by SMU FitnessWorks, the Dean of Students' — or DOS — Tri-Challenge comprises three exciting sports events that can range from anything like a mini-triathlon, a strongman contest, an indoor spinning race or stationery rowing. With prizes sponsored by the Dean of Students, this is a test of endurance where only the fittest and strongest survive to be crowned champions!

COMMUNITY

Diva La Futbol! This one's just for the ladies...

Diva La Futbol (DLF) is an annual soccer competition for girls established in 2003 by the pioneer SMU Women Soccer Team in collaboration with Heartware Network. The event promotes the spirit of sports and soccer to women and incorporates community bonding and meaningful volunteerism. It highlights both the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle and community servitude amongst the youth.

The participants are females in the 13-30 age group, with or without experience, from various junior colleges, Institutes of Technical Education (ITEs), secondaryschools and universities. Apart from this, Diva will basically be a ‘Community Engagement Project', in which girls of different schools and different backgrounds can all have the opportunity to come together to play football – all in the name of fun.

INTERNATIONAL

Not Zorros, but ASEAN varsity fencers!

The first two days of September saw a gathering of ASEAN universities' finest fencers right here at SMU. Together with OSL, the SMU Fencing Club organised the first ever ASEAN Varsity Fencing Championships 2007 (AVFC) and the university played host. Aimed at fostering ASEAN university ties, AVFC is a platform for tertiary-level fencers to compete and measure themselves against their counterparts from around the region. This is the first event of such scale in the region.
