ASMU ON-GOING PROJECTS

EVENING @ SMU

This annual event in August is part of the SMU Ambassadors' initiative to share the SMU experience with parents of SMU students. Parents are invited to visit the school grounds and experience life in SMU through interaction with our students, staff, faculty and alumni.

This event usually begins in the evening where guests are greeted with a campus tour of our state-of-the-art SMU city campus. It includes a mock seminar lecture, giving guests a first-hand taste of SMU's unique teaching pedagogy. Dinner, which is provided, is a platform where hearty conversations between faculty and parents are exchanged. It is also an opportunity for students to showcase their CCA through performances put up that night.

SMU HOODIES PROJECT

This project was initiated in 2007 with the intent of fostering a stronger sense of identity and camaraderie within the SMU community, and at the same time benefitting those of the under-privileged.

Designing the hoodie was a collaborative effort involving students, faculty and administrative staff over many months of hard work. The response from past year sales were extremely positive and the Corps hope to continue with this project in the long-run.

Proceeds from the sales were channelled to the SMU Ambassadorial Corps Textbook Fund, which go towards subsidising the cost of textbooks for needy students.

HPAIR 2010 ASIA CONFERENCE

The Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) Asia Conference is one of the largest annual student conferences in the Asia-Pacific region which promotes discourse on critical issues affecting Asia and its relations with the world. Since its inception in 1991, it has brought together international students from top universities, renowned academics, business professionals, and political leaders to exchange views on issues pertinent to Asia through its annual conferences.

The 2010 conference was jointly organised by Harvard's HPAIR Organising Committee and SMU, through the SMU Student Ambassadors, with the vision of inspiring change to expose, engage, promote, and foster the development of youth leaders to be tomorrow's leaders. The conference, held from 20-24 August at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, was attended by over 450 delegates from Asia, Europe and North America.

The five-day conference featured a series of interactive workshops, informative seminars and inspiring plenary sessions on topics such as the transitioning of political economies in Asia, environmental security, international law, entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility.

For bringing the SMU experience to the international community through the HPAIR Asia Conference, SMU was awarded the Singapore Tourism Board's prestigious Singapore Experience Award under the Association Conference of the Year category.
