Safety Centre

OSL's Safety Unit was established to provide a more focused overview in the area of safety training, planning and management of activities and events organised by the student community. This is done through providing education, guidance, direction and consultancy for the various student clubs and groups within SMU to inculcate a ‘safety culture', by employing standard safety protocols and procedures.

OSL SAFETY POLICY

SMU Office of Student Life strives to take all reasonable and practicable steps to provide a safe and healthy environment for students and to protect them from the hazards found in the CCA or club activities that they participate in.

OSL SAFETY CENTRE

OSL has a space specially dedicated to the Safety Centre, located at B1-64, along SMU's basement concourse. The space is divided into an office area, which houses staff from OSL's Safety and Student Leadership cluster, and a separate space for conducting safety and leadership training and workshops for staff and students.

Since August 2011, The OSL Safety Centre has been awarded accreditation as a Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training Centre by the National Resuscitation Council (NRC). SMU is the only university in Singapore to attain the NRC accreditation, which qualifies the Safety Centre to certify staff and students who attend and pass the one-day BCLS programme held at the Safety Centre.

Some of the training programmes and services offered at the centre include workshops on Risk Assessment & Management Systems for the Outdoors and Events; Risk Assessment & Management Systems for Leaders; Emergency Management Systems; Judgement Training; Introduction to Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation and consultancy and advisory services for student-led events and activities. (Please click the tab on the right for more detailed descriptions of the Safety Training Programmes offered.)

Students may also contact the staff at the Safety Centre or via email to book and make use of the centre space for related activities, subject to its booking schedule.
