E.y.E's investment boot camp draws big response

The SMU E.y.E Club, a student-run investment interactive club, organised its first ever investment boot camp for SMU students, with the aim of stimulating greater interest in finance and investment among the community. Over 250 eager participants enrolled in the camp, held on 3 September at the new SMU campus. Kim Eng Securities Pte Ltd (Kim Eng) was the exclusive sponsor for the event.

The theme of the camp, "Say No to Ignorance", was aptly addressed in the full-day session. Participants were given an introduction on investing through an informal sharing session with fellow student seniors on their real life investing experiences. The anticipated talks by distinguished guest speaker Mr Ong Seng Yeow, Executive Director of Kim Eng Research Pte Ltd, as well as SMU faculty provided a good mix of practical and academic knowledge for the students. Mr Ong shared his expertise on stock picking techniques, while SMU Assistant Professor Chua Choong Tze and Mr Ang Ser Keng, SMU adjunct faculty of the MSc in Wealth Management programme, spoke on money matters and the exciting world of investment banking respectively.

The camp illustrates industry endorsement of raising financial literacy amongst tertiary students. The collaboration between Kim Eng and SMU is a clear mark of the confidence that the business sector has in SMU and its quality education programmes. This is especially so given the strategic location SMU now occupies in the heart of the city, which allows more of such collaborations with the community.

As affirmed by Mr Kewee Kho, Vice President of Business Development for Kim Eng, "Kim Eng believes strongly in giving back to the community and in building the capacity of our youths, especially in the areas of finance and investment. We certainly look forward to more such collaborations with SMU." Towards the end of the year or early 2006, Kim Eng will sponsor a Financial Game Challenge as part of their sponsorship package.
