SMU's new campus hosts Singapore Art Show

"It is SMU's intention to be part of the cultural life of our lively and historically rich neighbourhood and we are glad to be able to play a part in the inaugural Singapore Art Show and are happy to share our space with the community, while bringing in works of art into our environment to enhance and enrich our students' experiences."

SMU President, Prof Howard Hunter

SMU is one of the various venues hosting the inaugural Singapore Art Show from 23 September to 23 October. This is a new national platform to celebrate local visual art. The official launch of the Singapore Art Show was held on 27 September, with Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts leading the opening ceremonies.

The three components of the Art Show to be on the SMU campus are:

Public art "You can touch"

This is an exhibition of works by some of the most established and successful Singaporean sculptors, and includes a range of works in different styles and media. The main displays are sited on the Campus Green, in the lobby of the Administration Building and in the SMU Art Gallery.

Line-Art exhibition

This exhibition depicts its role in modern and figurative art. The exhibition will be in the Concourse of the School of Economics & Social Sciences.

Open Session

This exhibition features outstanding new works submitted via open call to all Singaporean and Singapore-based artists. It is a platform for new artists to exhibit distinctive high quality artworks completed in the last two years. It is displayed in the SMU Concourse.
