Rosie CHING, Lecturer in the School of Economics, was the recipient of the Special Award for Innovation 2008.

Mark CHONG, Practice Associate Professor of Corporate Communication, was a guest speaker at the Youth Marketing Forum 2008 and spoke about “Appealing to college-bound youth: SMU’s experience”.

John DAVIS, Practice Associate Professor of Marketing, has authored the book The Olympic Games Effect: How Sports Marketing Builds Strong Brands.

HOON Chang Yau, Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, has authored the book Chinese Identity in Post-Suharto Indonesia: Culture, Politics and Media.

Annie KOH, Dean of Executive and Professional Education and Associate Professor of Finance, was an invited speaker at the Singapore Human Capital Summit 2008 (22-24 October); was a panel Chair at the LatinAsia Business Forum (22-23 September 2008), the WDA Annual Leadership Forum (17 September 2007), Wealth magazine’s first The Cover Club Programme (27 June 2008), and SCCCI’s Distinguished Speaker’s Lecture Series (14 April 2008). She was an invited speaker at the Global Leadership & Mentoring Congress 2008 (4-5 August 2008) and the Caribbean SME Workshop@St Lucia on 27 May 2008.

LAU Hoong Chuin, Associate Professor of Information Systems, and Jochen REB, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources, are the Lee Kuan Yew Fellows for Research Excellence 2007.

LEONG Thin Yin, Practice Associate Professor of Information Systems, and Michelle CHEONG, Practice Assistant Professor of Information Systems, have co-authored the book Business Modeling with Spreadsheet: Problems, Principles and Practice.

Angela LEUNG, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and SHEN Jialie, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, are the Lee Foundation Fellows for Research Excellence 2008-2009.

LI Yingjiu, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, was an invited speaker at the RFID Security Seminar at the National RFID Centre, SIMTech, in Singapore on 1 August 2008.

LIM Ee Peng, Professor of Information Systems, presented the keynote speech at the Fourth Annual Conference on Collaboration Technologies 2008 in Wakayama, Japan, on 20 August 2008.

Thomas MENKHOFF
, Practice Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources, has contributed chapters to three books—The Straits of Malacca: Knowledge and Diversity; Knowledge Management in Asia—Experience and Lesson; and The Power of Knowing—Studies of Chinese Business in Asia. The Power of Knowing was edited by Thomas MENKHOFF and PANG Eng Fong, Professor of Management.

Steven MILLER, Dean of the School of Information Systems and Practice Professor of Information Systems, and KAM Tin Seong, Practice Associate Professor of Information Systems, conducted a workshop on information technology for hospitality enterprises at the Singapore Hotel Association Hospitality Technology Seminar in Singapore on 18 September 2008.

T. Brian MOONEY, Practice Associate Professor of Philosophy, has co-authored the book Responding to Terrorism: Political, Philosophical and Legal Perspectives.

Desai NARASIMHALU, Practice Professor of Information Systems, has been appointed Director of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Peter C.B. PHILLIPS, SMU Distinguished Term Professor in Economics and Sterling Professor of Economics and Professor of Statistics at Yale University has been made a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy.

SHEN Jialie, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, presented an invited paper at the IEEE 2008 International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing in Cairns, Australia (8-10 October 2008).

Kirpal SINGH, Associate Professor of English Literature, delivered a keynote address at the 4th International Aldous Huxley Symposium in Los Angeles on 31 July-2 August 2008. As Director of the Wee Kim Wee Centre he represented SMU at the ITU (International Telecom Union) Asia 2008 symposia in Bangkok (1-5 September 2008).

Eugene K.B. TAN, Assistant Professor of Law, has been appointed as an advisor to the Third National Youth Forum.

Pearl TAN, Practice Associate Professor of Accounting, was the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher 2008 award, and she has also co-authored the book Advanced Financial Accounting: An IAS and IFRS Approach.

WAN Wai Yee, Assistant Professor of Law, has been appointed a Hauser Global Research Fellow with the University of New York School of Law.
