On 28 November 2007 SMU’s School of Information Systems (SIS) and IBM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to offer a Service Science, Management and Engineering programme (SSME) that will be part of the Bachelor of Science (Information Systems Management) second major in Advanced Business Solutions. The new SSME was incorporated into the curriculum in March 2008 as part of this specialisation track. SIS already has students enrolled in a Business Intelligence Track. The SSME and Banking and Trading Track will be available to students in the academic year starting in August 2008.
SMU, IBM, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and 15 industry first-movers – supported by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) – launched the SSME to encourage a collaboration between government, academia and industry to push the frontier of service innovation through education, research and talent development.
“Service Science creates a new and exciting paradigm, which transforms the way we develop, deliver, manage and measure service. It provides a means to sustain and scale quality service performance and accelerate service innovation through research.”
