Bukit Timah campus turns 75

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Bukit Timah campus (1929 – 2004). The campus has a long, rich academic history and educational heritage here in Singapore. Institutions that have resided on the campus include Raffles College (1929 – 1949), the University of Malaya (1949 – 1962), the University of Singapore (1962 – 1981) and the National Institute of Education (1982 – 2000). Graduates of these institutions include pioneers and prominent members of the political and business arenas from the past and present both in Singapore and Malaysia.

From 24 April – 2 May 2004, the Bukit Timah campus will welcome home its alumni for a retrospective of yester-year. Former students, faculty and staff from the Bukit Timah years are invited to gather together and relive memories from their educational years here. This nostalgic event will be hosted by SMU, the current resident in a line of tertiary institutions that have called the Bukit Timah campus home.

Alumni with special memories and stories to tell are invited to contribute their part of the Bukit Timah campus history. We also invite them to use this occasion to meet up with former classmates and faculty.

For more event details, please visit www.smu.edu.sg/homecoming.

A call for memories, memorabilia and joggers!

SMU is calling for stories, oral histories, photographs and memorabilia from the Bukit Timah campus years to be shared and displayed for this event. Contribute your part of history! (All items on loan will be returned to their owners at the conclusion of the event).

We also invite alumni of the campus and other eager participants to take part in a 75-lap torch marathon to commemorate 75 years of campus history. Sign up for one or more laps around the campus (you don’t need to run fast!) and invite your former classmates and friends to join in: Saturday, 24 April.
