On 8 January, a delegation from the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) visited SMU as part of their interflow tour programme. The group comprised 21 students and four staff, led by their Director of Student Development Services. One of SMU’s partner universities in the international exchange programme, CityU chose to visit SMU because of its unique position as the first private university in Singapore funded by the government. The Hong Kong visitors were particularly interested in the aspects of international collaboration, international student exchange activities and meeting with SMU student leaders.

The interflow tour is an important educational experience for these CityU students, who form the Student Organising Committee of the Student Leadership Conference 2004. The conference – now in its fifth year of operation – is designed to
develop the leadership potential of university students in Hong Kong and foster the linkage among university students around the world. The objective of the conference is to encourage university students to develop and excel themselves as future leaders, with the vision to contribute to the betterment of our society and nation. Since the theme of this year’s conference is the future of Asia in global collaboration and competition, the interflow tour aimed to enhance the Hong Kong students’ understanding towards the recent development in Singapore as a fast-growing Asian country.
