Onur BOYABATLI, Assistant Professor of Operations Management, presented Supply Management in Multi-Product Firms with Fixed Proportions Technology and Capacity and Procurement Management for Agricultural Commodity Processor in October 2009 at INFORMS Conference in San Diego.

Warren CHIK, Assistant Professor of Law, was awarded Best Academic Paper by the Computer Law and Security Review (CLSR), presented Customary Internet Law and chaired a session on International Law at the Fourth International Conference on Legal, Security and Privacy Issues in IT Law and the Third International Law and Trade Conference held in Malta in November 2009.

Chiraphol New CHIYACHANTANA, Assistant Professor of Finance, presented Earnings Management Surrounding Seasoned Bond Offerings: Do Managers Fool Rating Agencies and the Bond Market? at the FMA Annual Meetings in Reno, USA in October 2009.

Young Rok CHOI, Assistant Professor of Management, was chosen for Outstanding Reviewer Award for 2009 by the Journal of Business Venturing.

Davin CHOR, Assistant Professor of Economics, presented Off the Cliff and Back? Credit Conditions and International Trade during the Global Financial Crisis jointly with Kalina MANOVA of Stanford University at the University of New South Wales’ International Trade Workshop in December 2009.

CHUNG Wai-Keung, Assistant Professor of Sociology, presented Whither the Laissez-faire Economy? Hong Kong and the Development of a Knowledge Economy at the 11th Annual Conference of the Hong Kong Sociological Association in December 2009.

Robert DENG, Professor of Information Systems, spoke on Scalable End-to- End Multimedia Content Authentication Techniques at the International Conference on Multimedia Information Networking and Security in Wuhan, China in November 2009, and presented on Remote Attestation on Function Execution at the International Conference on Trusted Computing in Beijing, China in December 2009.

David DING, Associate Professor of Finance, presented Insider Trading and Corporate Spinoffs; Fangjian FU, Assistant Professor of Finance, presented Acquisitions Driven by Stock Overvaluation; Roger LOH, Assistant Professor of Finance, presented Stock Return Predictability; Mitchell WARACHKA, Associate Professor of Finance, presented The Return Predictability of Trends in Earnings Surprises; and Joe ZHANG, Assistant Professor of Finance, presented Mutual Fund Flows, Performance Persistence, and Board Quality at the Financial Management Association International Annual Meetings in Reno, USA in October 2009.

Michael FURMSTON, Dean, School of Law and Professor of Law, presented The Globalization of Legal Education at the New York State Bar Association International Section Conference (Singapore) in October 2009.

Pasha L. HSIEH, Assistant Professor of Law, presented China-United States Trade Disputes: Protectionism and International Law Implications at the Victoria University of Wellington in October 2009.

KIM Kyung-Hwan, Visiting Professor of Economics, contributed a chapter Housing Finance and Urban Finance for Global Urbanization in the 21st Century, edited by Eugene Birch and Susan Wachter (2010). He contributed articles Mortgage Market in Korea: Current State and Challenges Ahead and Housing Price Dynamics to be included in the International Encyclopedia of Housing and Home (2010).

Annie KOH, Dean of Executive & Professional Education and Associate Professor of Finance, was moderator at the APEC Seminar on Accelerating SME’s Access to Global Market; the Asian Venture Capital Journal SEA 2009: Private Equity & Venture Forum; Paris Europlace International Financial Forum; Carbon Forum Asia (October 2009); Latin Asia Business Forum; Family Business Network Pacific Asia Annual Regional Summit; the Asia Pacific Family Office Conference in Hong Kong (November 2009); as well as judge at the Singapore Prestige Brand Award 2009.

LAU Hoong Chuin, Associate Professor of Information Systems, spoke on Recent Advances in Local Search at the Special Conference on Methods & Applications of Metaheuristics in Guangzhou, China in December 2009 and on A Combinatorial Auction Framework for Decentralized Resource Allocation and Scheduling at the Workshop on Distributed Collaborative Multi-agent Systems in Gent, Belgium in November 2009.

Andrew LEE, Practice Associate Professor of Accounting, has been appointed to the Accounting Standards Council by the Ministry of Finance from 1 November 2009.

LIM Yun Fong, Assistant Professor of Operations Management, served as Cluster Chair of Workforce Management for INFORMS 2009 in San Diego, USA in October 2009.

Bernard LEE, Deputy Director of Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics, presented at a financial industry event co-sponsored by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Banque de France; hosted a professional development session on alternative investments for the CFA Institute in October 2009; presented at a pre-APEC investment forum in November 2009; and was invited to serve on the International Advisory Council on astronomy and space technologies at the University of Florida.

Jack Tsen-Ta LEE, Assistant Professor of Law, was appointed to the LawNet Management Committee of the Singapore Academy of Law and acted as respondent to Legal Defense and Public Responsibility: The Struggle for Public Opinion by Dr Peter SCHIWY of the German School of Administrative Sciences, Munich, at the 2nd South East Asia Media Legal Defense Network Conference in Cebu, Philippines in October 2009.

Sheen S. LEVINE, Assistant Professor of Management, lectured at Harvard University on How Pay it Forward Happens, co-authored with W. E. BAKER, University of Michigan. Business, law, and engineering faculty attended.

LUAN Shenghua, Assistant Professor of Psychology, presented Improving Estimation Accuracy through Sequential Adjustment at The Annual Meeting of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making in November 2009.

Ian MACDUFF, Practice Associate Professor of Law, was appointed to the Independent Standards Commission, International Mediation Institute, The Hague and to the Editorial Board of the Journal in Conflictology. He presented The Uses of Contradiction: Cultural Norms in Conflict Resolution at the Third International Congress on Conflictology at the Open University of Catalonia in October 2009.

Thomas MENKHOFF, Practice Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour & Human Resources, conducted Knowledge Management training at the Mekong Delta Development Research Institute, Can Tho University, Vietnam, with Professor Hans- Dieter EVERS, Centre for Development Research, Bonn University in November 2009. He has also been appointed member of the Singapore Youth Award Advisory Committee (Entrepreneurship) for the term 2010-2011 by the National Youth Council.

Steven MILLER, Dean, School of Information Systems and Practice Professor of Information Systems, chaired the Industry Keynote Speech: Marina Bay Sands Project at the IEEE International Conference on e-Business Engineering in Macau, China in October 2009, and was bandleader for the session on Infocomm: Igniting the Social Web at the Social iCon in October 2009.

Desai NARASIMHALU, Practice Professor of Information Systems and Director of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has been appointed President of the Singapore chapter of the US-based Product Development and Management Association.

Kevin OW YONG, Assistant Professor of Accounting, was invited panellist at the 3rd Annual Global Hedge Fund Symposium in November 2009.

Brian RODRIGUES, Associate Dean (Faculty and Research), Lee Kong Chian School of Business and Associate Professor of Quantitative Methods, was appointed to the editorial board of the Asia Pacific Journal of Operational Research from October 2009.

Ori SASSON, Practice Assistant Professor of Information Systems, spoke on Extracting Logistics-Related Knowledge Artefacts from Wargames at the d-Logistics Seminar in October 2009.

SHEN Jialie, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, presented Robust Semantic Concept Detection in Large News Video Collections at the IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics in the USA in October 2009.

Kirpal SINGH, Associate Professor of English Literature, presented The Politics of Literary Globalization: Issues with the Literatures of Asia-Pacific at the 13th Biennial Symposium on Literatures and Cultures of the Asia Pacific Region in November 2009.

Jennifer STUCKEY-CLARKE, Practice Associate Professor of Law, presented Comparative Estates Law at the New York State Bar Association International Section Conference (Singapore) and presented Contract, Property or Trust: Protectors’ Powers and Settlors’ Reserved Powers to the ACT Bar Association in Canberra, Australia in October 2009.

Liangjun SU, Associate Professor of Economics, joined the editorial board as Associate Editor of Econometric Theory for a term of four years from January 2010.

Themin SUWARDY, Practice Associate Professor of Accounting, has been elected to the Board of Governors for the Institute of Internal Auditors of Singapore from August 2009.

Augustine H. H. TAN, Practice Professor of Economics, chaired the Ngee Ann Kongsi Lecture by Professor Christopher FINDLAY of Adelaide University in October 2009, was panelist at the Singapore Economic Policy Forum in October 2009 and presented Financial Cooperation & The Future of the Dollar in East Asia at the Institute of Strategic & International Studies, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December 2009.

TAN Chin Tiong, Professor of Marketing, has been seconded to the new Singapore Institute of Technology as its Founding President from 1 October 2009. He remains a faculty member of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business.

Eugene K. B. TAN, Assistant Professor of Law, was keynote speaker at the Polytechnic Forum 2009 dialogue session on Rights and Responsibilities of the Individual in September 2009, and was invited plenary speaker on Corporate Social Responsibility at the New York State Bar Association International Section Conference (Singapore) in October 2009.

TAN Wee Liang, Associate Professor of Management, together with R. ZUTSHI, published Impact of Culture on ‘Partner Selection Criteria’ in East Asian International Joint Ventures in the International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal. He also contributed a chapter on Singapore in the Handbook of Research and Asian Entrepreneurship and presented at the Canadian Council on Small Business and Entrepreneurship annual conference.

Ted TSCHANG, Associate Professor of Management, spoke at a panel on The Future of Games: Serious Games at the 10th World Knowledge Forum in Seoul.

David T. WAGNER, Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour & Human Resources, authored a research paper When Can Employees Have A Family Life? The Effects of Daily Workload and Affect on Work-Family Conflict and Social Behaviours at Home selected as a finalist for the annual Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research in October 2009.

YANG Hwajin, Assistant Professor of Psychology, presented Relating Literacy Skills and Executive Attention in Chinese-English Bilingual Children at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society in November 2009.

Jun YU, Professor of Economics, was appointed over the period 2010-2013 Associate Editor of Asia-Pacific Financial Markets, the official journal of the Japanese Association of Financial Econometrics and Engineering.

David CHAN, Deputy Provost and Professor of Psychology, was conferred the Friends of MCYS Award for his contributions to the National Council on Problem Gambling, and was re-appointed Co-Chairman of the International Advisory Panel for the National Addictions Management Service and the National Council of Problem Gambling for two years. He delivered a keynote address on The Science of Happiness and Well-Being at the Learning Fiesta at Singapore General Hospital and on Principled Adaptive Leadership at the Regional Education Conference at SMU. He published Mixture Latent Markov Modeling in Organizational Research Methods and a chapter on Advances in Analytical Strategies in the APA Handbook of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
 
Roberto S. MARIANO, Dean, School of Economics and Professor of Economics & Statistics, was elected Fellow of the Econometric Society in November 2009, a prestigious award given annually to only a select few in the economics profession worldwide, constituting a significant recognition of their original contributions to economics. Fellows represent the highest authority of the society.
 
Mahdev MOHAN, Assistant Professor of Law, was named an Honouree of the 2009 The Outstanding Young Person of the Year Award for his contribution and dedication to human rights in Asia.
 
Rajendra K. SRIVASTAVA, Provost, Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Professor of Marketing, will be conferred Life Time Achievement Award by the Academy of Marketing’s Brand Special Interest Group (SIG) at its 6th International Conference at ESADE in Barcelona in April 2010.
