David CHAN, Professor of Psychology and Interim Dean of the School of Social Sciences, was named Chairman of SMU’s Institutional Review Board, which has been established to review all research involving human subjects proposed by faculty (full-time or adjuncts), staff, and students affiliated with SMU.

Gary CHAN has been promoted to Associate Professor of Law with the granting of tenure in the School of Law.

Mark CHONG Yiew Kim has been promoted to Practice Associate Professor of Corporate Communications.

Annie KOH, Dean of Executive Education and Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Finance at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, was a panelist at BusinessWeek’s eleventh annual CEO Forum,“Staying on the Fast Track: Leadership, Innovation, Performance,” which was held in Beijing from 6-7 November 2007. Prof Koh was a featured speaker at the Business & Professional Women’s Association (Singapore) Third Chapter, on 15 Sept 2007, when she addressed the question: “MBAs–How critical are they to career advancement?”.

LAU Hoong Chuin has been granted tenure as Associated Professor of Information Systems.

Marcus LEE, Practice Assistant Professor of Marketing, has been appointed Academic Director of the Institute of Service Excellence at SMU (ISES).

LEE Pey Woan has been promoted to Associate Professor of Law with the granting of tenure in the School of Law.

Rathna NATHAN, Practice Assistant Professor of Law, has been appointed Associate Dean, External Relations, for the School of Law.

TAN Min Yen has been promoted to Assistant Professor of Accounting.

TAN Swee Liang, Co-Director of the Centre for Teaching & Learning, has been promoted to Practice Associate Professor of Economics.

TAN Teck Meng, Professor of Accounting, has been appointed to Singapore’s new 15-member Accounting Standards Council, which will set standards for charities, societies, cooperatives, and small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as corporations.

Melvyn TEO, Director of the BNP Paribas Hedge Fund Centre at SMU, has been promoted to Associate Professor of Finance with the granting of tenure in the Lee Kong Chian School of Business. He has also won the prize for the Best Paper Relevant to Foundation and Endowment Asset Management at the 2007 European Finance Association Meetings for his co-authored paper on hedge funds.
