Onur BOYABATLI, Assistant Professor of Operations Management, presented his paper Supply Management in Multi-Product Firms with Fixed Proportions Technology in IFORM (Interface of Finance, Operations and Risk Management) SIG (Special Interest Group) Conference as a part of the MSOM conference in Haifa, Israel on 27 June 2010.

David CHAN, Deputy Provost and Professor of Psychology, delivered two keynote addresses namely, Acting Responsibly: How to Implement Social and Environmental Sustainability at the Asia-Pacific Conference Young Leaders Forum and Principled Adaptive Leadership for Principals at the Principals’ Seminar, Ministry of Education. He published Longitudinal Assessment of Job Performance and Work Attitudes at International Review of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and presented Mixture Latent Markov Modeling at the 25th Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in Atlanta in April 2010.

Gary CHAN, Associate Professor of Law, was appointed Director of Continuing Legal Education, School of Law from 1 May 2010.

Davin CHOR, Assistant Professor of Economics, attended the Global Dimensions of the Financial Crisis conference organised by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 3 to 4 June 2010 where his paper, Off the Cliff and Back? Credit Conditions and International Trade during the Global Financial Crisis, was the first to be presented at the conference.

CHENG Chi-Ying, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, and Bernard LEE, Visiting Associate Professor of Economics (Practice), presented An Analysis of Extreme Price Shocks and Illiquidity Among Systematic Trend Followers at the Financial Engineering and Risk Management Conference 2010 held at the National Taiwan University in Taipei on 10 June 2010 and at the National Chengchi University on 12 June 2010. Together with Annie KOH, Associate Professor of Finance, both of them won a competitive international research award from the Institute for Financial Markets in Washington D.C.

Robert DENG, Associate Dean (Faculty & Research) and Professor of Information Systems, is awarded the Community Service Star and selected as one of only two honorees showcased in the Senior Information Security Professional category for the 2010 (ISC)2 Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) on 26 July 2010.

FOO See Liang, Associate Professor of Accounting (Practice), spearheaded the project KPMG-SMU Survey on Productivity and Innovation, Growth through Internationalisation and Mergers and Acquisitions with KPMG and presented the findings at the 2010 Enterprise 50 Awards Launch, Singapore on 4 May 2010.

Fangjian FU, Assistant Professor of Finance, presented Acquisitions Driven by Stock Overvaluation: Are They Good Deals? At the University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong in April 2010.

Michael FURMSTON, Dean, School of Law and Professor of Law, was conferred “Doctor of the University” in June 2010 by The Open University, UK which is the largest provider of management education in Europe and a triple-accredited business school by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), The Association of MBAs (AMBA) and European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). He has also published a new book Contract Formation: Law and Practice (Oxford University Press) with his co-author Associate Professor Greg J. Tolhurst (University of Sydney).

Henry GAO, Associate Professor of Law, was appointed in April 2010 to the International Legal Affairs Committee of Experts, a senior consultant group established by China International Council for the Promotion of Multinational Corporations, and was invited by the WTO Secretariat to launch the WTO Chairs Program in Geneva on 25 May 2010 as member of its International Advisory Board.

Jeremy GOH, Associate Professor of Finance, and David DING, Associate Professor of Finance (Practice), participated as members of the Asian Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee in Singapore from 13 to 15 July 2010, and were Programme Co-Chairs of the Financial Management Association (Asia) Conference held in SMU from 14 to 16 July 2010.

Bernard LEE, Visiting Associate Professor of Economics (Practice), delivered an invited guest lecture on modeling alternative investment risk by the National Science Council of the Taiwanese Government at the National Chung Hsing University in Taichung on 14 June 2010, and spoke on investment trends on 24 June 2010 on invitation of the MIT Alumni Club.

Arcot Desai NARASIMHALU, Professor of Information Systems (Practice), was invited speaker at the Information Retrieval Facility Strategic Seminar 2010 in Vienna, Austria on 1 June 2010 where he spoke on Promoting Innovation: Innovation Management and IP Audit. He also spoke on Creating Innovations that Matter at the Technical University of Vienna on 2 June 2010 and presented a paper on A Method for Designing the Dynamics of Service Innovations at the XXI International Society for Professional Innovation Management conference at Bilbao, Spain in June 2010.

PHANG Sock Yong, Professor of Economics, has been appointed Interim Dean of the School of Economics from 1 July 2010. She has recently published Affordable Homeownership Policy: Implications for Housing Markets in International Journal of Housing Markets and Analysis, was invited by the World Bank to speak at the Global Housing Finance Conference in Washington D.C. from 26 to 27 May 2010, and was appointed Council Member of the Public Transport Council by the Minister for Transport.

Themin SUWARDY, Associate Professor of Accounting (Practice), was appointed Vice- President-at-large (World Congress) to the International Association for Accounting Education & Research (IAAER) with effect from January 2010, and to the Advisory Board of CPA Australia’s Environmental, Social and Governance Centre of Excellence, with effect from April 2010.

TAN Kim Song, Associate Professor of Economics (Practice), was awarded the Friend of Labour Award by the National Trades Union Congress, for his contributions as Director, NTUC First Campus Cooperative Ltd, and for serving on the Audit Committee and Academic Review Board of the organisation.

Adam ZHU Wanshan, Assistant Professor of Operations Management, published Periodic Flexibility, Information Sharing, and Supply Chain Performance in IIE Transactions in March 2010 which was also highlighted by the Editor-in-chief of Industrial Engineer Magazine in February 2010.
