BUSINESS-IT first runner-up

The return of APEX Global Business-IT Case Challenge 2010 – SMU’s very own undergraduate Business-IT case competition – saw a team of three SMU students finishing first runner-up, coming against 24 of the world’s top information systems teams from 14 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and Australia. The remarkable feat was accomplished by Udai Joshi (School of Information Systems), Ray Saurav (School of Information Systems) and Divya Rathi (Lee Kong Chian School of Business) who also emerged the top team of their division in the preliminary rounds, defeating defending champion Copenhagen Business School (Denmark). Coached by Assistant Professor Ilse Baumgartner, the team impressed judges with their clear analysis and comprehensive depth of their solutions in a tight battle with strong finalists including Texas A&M University (USA), Brigham Young University (USA) and Simon Fraser University (Canada). The SMU team lost to Brigham Young University. Organised by SMU students, the five-day competition from 26-30 April 2010 picked up from the resounding success of the inaugural run last year, being praised as one of most grueling information systems case competitions in the world.
