Credit Suisse makes S$500,000 gift to SMU
Credit Suisse, one of the world's leading
banks, has donated S$500,000 to the Singapore Management
University (SMU). It is the Bank's first gift to SMU, marking
the start of a new strategic relationship between Singapore
's first private university and the Zurich-based Bank. In
recognition of Credit Suisse's generosity, SMU has named
in perpetuity an Executive Seminar Room in its Executive
Education Conference Centre, located in the SMU Administration
Building, the “Credit Suisse Executive Seminar Room”.
“Credit Suisse is proud to be associated
with SMU, a university known for its innovative approach
to tertiary education. SMU's close proximity to the financial
district and to the Bank's local headquarters provides a
convenient physical location and accessible training facilities
for the Bank's internal Business School. This sponsorship
is a sign of our commitment to developing the quality of
Singapore's workforce through SMU and contributing back to
society by supporting the university education sector,” said
Dr Siegfried Hoenle, Managing Director, Business School Asia
Campus, Credit Suisse.
“The gift to SMU is the beginning
of a long-term relationship with Credit Suisse. There are
many future opportunities for mutually beneficial alliances
such as opening up of internship places for SMU students,
recruitment of SMU graduates, executive education, research
collaborations, faculty development, consultancies and mentorship
of students. SMU is happy to have forged an alliance with
a major international financial institution such as Credit
Suisse. SMU is expanding its executive education offerings
and enlarging its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
in banking and finance,” said Professor Howard Hunter,
President, Singapore Management University.
Credit Suisse has been working to expand
its partnership with SMU through various collaborations such
as bringing in principal international Credit Suisse professionals
with substantial industry insight and experience as guest
speakers and lecturers for SMU's banking and finance curriculum.
Similarly, SMU faculty, through its executive education programme
and in collaboration with Credit Suisse's Business School
, has developed and conducted leadership training for Credit
Suisse staff. SMU will be seeking more avenues for synergy
in its relationship with Credit Suisse.
The “Credit Suisse Executive Seminar
Room”, located at level five of the SMU Administration
Building, is a 60-seater tiered horse-shoe shaped teaching
facility suited to the American-style pedagogy of small,
interactive MBA-type classes. The seminar room is acoustically
insulated with sound-dampening walls and double glazed windows
to keep out the bustling sound of the city and it has both
wireless and cable internet capability. The seminar room
comes with two projectors, two screens and six moveable whiteboards
to allow simultaneous projection of materials.
