Singapore Management University’s
Pioneer Cohort of Masters Students Graduates
Singapore Management University’s
(SMU) pioneer batch of Master of Science in Applied
Finance students graduated in June 2003. All 21 students,
who had enrolled in January 2002, completed the programme
and attended the graduation ceremony last week.
“We're very proud to graduate
our first batch of Masters’ students,” says
Teaching Associate Professor Benedict Koh, Director
of Master of Science in Applied Finance Programme. “Getting
admitted into the programme was tough enough, given
the intense competition for places, not to mention
completing the rigorous and intensive programme in
18 months. The students came to us with varied backgrounds,
such as engineering and science, but through this
programme, have emerged as competent financial and
investment professionals.”
The curriculum is designed not only
to fulfil the coursework demand of an MSc degree
in Applied Finance, but also allows individuals who
are pursuing their CFA qualifications to meet the
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examination requirements.
The programme offers a comprehensive range of courses
and electives, such as Corporate Finance, Financial
Risk Management, Hedge Funds, e-Commerce & Finance
and Corporate Strategy & Financial
Performance.
Led by qualified SMU faculty and
industry professionals, the programme duration comprises
three terms of 18 weeks each. Graduates must complete
16 compulsory core courses (2 credits each) and 2
elective courses (4 credits each) to meet the 40-credit
requirement of the MSc degree. Admission requirements
are a good bachelor’s degree, a good GMAT score
and at least 2 years working experience (preferred).
