Singapore Management University Students
Organise Wild Life Party at Zouk To Raise Funds for
Baby Orang-utan.
Students Demonstrate Leadership & Team-Building Skills Out of the Classroom
Party with a heart!
Come 13 June, Project Primate, a
group of students from the Singapore Management University
(SMU), in partnership with the Singapore Zoological
Gardens and Zouk club, will be organising an event
to create awareness of wildlife conservation and
to raise funds for the adoption of an orang-utan
from the Singapore Zoo.
Named Wild.Life, this event promises
to be a highly exciting and entertaining evening
at Zouk club, the premier nightspot in Singapore.
Lined up specially for all is an attractive programme
that includes photo opportunities with a python and
slow loris, an attractive lucky draw, games and a
sumptuous spread of food at the reception. And if
you're there promptly at 6.30pm, expect to come face
to face with an orang-utan at Zouk itself!
Those who are more sporting can
come dressed to the wildlife theme, and stand to
win an award for the best dressed Tarzan or Jane!
This is the only night at Zouk where the whole venue
will be transformed into a mini jungle. Come ready
to rumble! Party starts at 6.30pm and goes on till
late.
The genesis of this event is SMU's
leadership and teambuilding course and its community
service module. SMU aims to develop well-rounded
students who can organise themselves to achieve a
goal. Project Primate took on the task of adopting
a baby orang-utan at the Singapore Zoo for S$5,000
by committing to raise the necessary funds. In our
leadership and teamwork class, we have worked on
how to follow through on our commitment.
This major fundraising event to
be held at Zouk is the culmination of our efforts.
It is also the first major public project organised
by the students of SMU. The work ranged from persuading
Zouk to support us by waiving their usual $8,000
rental fee and having a wildlife theme for that night;
to garnering the support of the Singapore Zoological
Gardens by bringing an orang-utan and other animals
to the event for photo-taking sessions with guests;
to the sale of tickets, designing of a website and
managing publicity for the event. Eight hundred tickets
to Wild Life will be going on sale at only $10 each
at Vivamusic Hub at Cathay Orchard Cineleisure until
12 June. All proceeds go to the cause of wildlife
conservation and the adoption of an orang-utan fund.
Vivamusic Hub has agreed to offer the venue for the
sale of tickets as well as the publicity of the event
on their website, www.vivamusic.com and
their Music Festival at Cineleisure on 26 May and
2 June.
The entry charge of $10 includes
one standard drink and light refreshments. Various
donation opportunities will be available throughout
the evening (eg. a photo with an animal, sale of
T-shirts).
See you in the wildlife!
