Feedback Exhibition for Urban & Architectural Design
Competition
Members of public invited to view
exhibition and provide feedback on design submissions
As part of SMU's objective to involve
the public in this national Urban & Architectural
Design Competition, a public feedback exhibition
of the six Stage Two design submissions will be held
from Saturday, 21 October to Tuesday, 24 October
2000, 10am-8pm at the Singapore International Exhibition
and Convention Centre, Level 3 concourse.
The public are invited to view the
exhibition and provide feedback on the design submissions,
which will be compiled for the jury's consideration
before their recommendation of the final winner(s)
in Dec 2000.
Attracting an overwhelming 172 design
submissions from 35 countries - by far the largest
number of submissions for any architectural design
competition held in Singapore - the competition will
result in a commission of the SMU City Campus project
in the heart of the civic district.
Six local and international architectural
firms have been short-listed to proceed to Stage
Two of the prestigious Urban & Architectural
Design Competition held by the Singapore Management
University (SMU).
The six short-listed firms (in no
order of ranking) are:
- Architects 61 Pte Ltd (Singapore)
DesignInc Limited (Australia)
- Design Environment Group Architect (Singapore)
Cox Architects and Planners (Australia)
- DP Architects (Singapore)
- KNTA Architects (Singapore)
Edward Cullinan Architects (United Kingdom)
- LPT Architects (Singapore)
Rietveld Architects Limited (USA)
- PWD Consultants Pte Ltd (Singapore) [formerly
known as the INDECO Consultants Pte Ltd]
Perkins and Will (USA)
Conceptual designs on a more detailed
level by the six firms have already been submitted
to the jury.
The Jury comprises:
- Mr Fumihiko Maki, a world-renowned architect
and experienced international competition juror,
Winner of the Pritzker Prize (1993) and numerous
architecture awards, Principal, Maki & Associates,
Japan;
- Mr O. Robert Simha, Director of Planning, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, USA;
- Associate Professor Milton Tan, Head, School
of Architecture, National University of Singapore;
and
- Mr Ho Kwon Ping, Chairman, Singapore Management
University Board of Trustees.
