Dear BAcc Students,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the unique experience that is the SMU School of Accountancy. We are very delighted to be involved in this process as you find the key to unlock your fullest potential. The SMU BAcc programme will provide you with the relevant knowledge and skills to function as a professional, as well as your personal growth and development as an effective global citizen.
At SMU, we inculcate in our students a skill set that is so vital to success in the job market – the ability to communicate and do a presentation at short notice, the ability to be analytical and to think critically, to know when and how to take the lead and when to be a team player. These skills will enable you to fit into the working world seamlessly.
In the next three to four years as SMU students, you can look forward to opportunities to do many things. You may choose to do a double degree or a second major in another discipline. This provides for more job options. Alternatively, you may consider getting overseas exposure, either through an exchange with one of our many overseas partner universities; a Business Study Mission; or an overseas internship or community service project. These give SMU students a global perspective, something that is unique to SMU. You may even choose to represent SMU in international business competitions. The opportunities are out there, you just have to be proactive and seize them.
The years ahead will be as exciting as you choose to make them. It will also prepare you for your initiation into the working world. Take this opportunity to make friends and build networks. This will be invaluable when each of you embark on your respective careers.
