SMU has made significant technology investment to create a technology enabled learning environment in our City Campus. To capitalize on SMU’s technology investment, students are strongly encouraged to purchase a Tablet/Notebook PC, an indispensable tool for students in project works, discussions and presentations.
SMU advocates the use of the Tablet PC which better support the SMU pedagogy and offers more intuitive functionality such as digital inking, note-taking and increased mobility.
Through our Tablet/Notebook PC Ownership Scheme, the University will secure suitable models of Tablet/Notebook PC at great discounts to meet your different needs for processing power, weight and budget. These PCs will be preloaded with the standard suite of software provided by the University, and are rigorously tested for full compatibility with the teaching facilities, the campus wireless network and SMU applications. By choosing the SMU tendered Tablet PC or Notebook, you would also be assured of competent onsite campus technical support and 3 years warranty coverage.
You are strongly advised to purchase from the SMU tendered Tablet PC or Notebook to take advantage of the discounts and post-sales support. Should you purchase the Tablet/Notebook PCs from other vendors, please note that:
- Students will have to personally arrange with their vendors for all Tablet/Notebook PC hardware support.
- Students will have to install SMU’s standard software suite themselves, from the network shared drive.
- SMU can only provide limited software support.
- Student will not be able to benefit from the extended warranty of SMU tendered Tablet PC/Notebook such as:-
- 3 years local & International warranty
- 4 hrs response with loan set available if repair exceeded 8 working hours
- 3 years warranty on battery pack
SMU is in the process of selecting vendors for this year’s Tablet/Notebook PC Ownership Scheme to ensure we secure "the best value for money" deal for you. We expect to finalise the selection by end June 2008.
