Note: Candidates must report to their designated venue by 1.45pm. Latecomers will not be allowed to enter the examination room after 2.00pm.
Objective
The purpose of the waiver test is to identify students who have the requisite knowledge and skills in probability and statistics to critically analyze and interpret data. If you pass the waiver test you will receive a pass grade and exemption from STAT101 Introductory Statistics.
The Statistics Waiver Test is conducted once before the commencement of Term One of each academic year.
For Who
- Open to all freshmen students only (optional).
- BSc (Econ) students are strongly advised NOT to take the waiver test, as the Introductory Statistics course will prepare them better for Applied Econometrics, a compulsory econometrics course for the programme.
- Students who intend to declare Business Statistics, Actuarial Science or Quantitative Finance as second major should not take the waiver test.
Content
The test will consist of entirely multiple-choice questions. Please log on to OASIS at https://oasis.smu.edu.sg (Announcement section) using your SMU account to navigate to the list of topics, formulae and other useful details.
Payment
p align="justify"> A non-refundable registration fee of S$25 will be charged for the Optional Waiver Test for Statistics.Local Students’ Matriculation (7 - 9 July 2008)
Payment can be made together with tuition fees during the matriculation on 7 - 9 July 2008. Payment made after 9 July must be directed to School of Economics, Admin Office, Level 5, 90 Stamford Road, Singapore 178903.
International Students’ Matriculation (28& 29 July 2008)
Payment can be made together with tuition fees during the Matriculation on 28 & 29 July 2008. Payment made after 29 July must be directed to School of Economics, Admin Office, Level 5, 90 Stamford Road, Singapore 178903.
Registration
To register for the Statistics Waiver Test, please log on to OASIS at https://oasis.smu.edu.sg (Announcement section) using your SMU account. You will receive your SMU account after you have matriculated. Registration closes on Thursday, 31 July 2008 at 5.00pm. Your designated venue for the test will be sent to your SMU email account upon successful registration and receipt of registration fee.
