The LKY-STEP Award (Scholarship To Encourage Upgrading) was established from donations received from Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew through the sale proceeds of autographed editions of Volume 2 of his Memoirs. The objective of the award is to encourage upgrading and lifelong learning. The awards will be offered to outstanding polytechnic graduates pursuing full-time undergraduate degree courses at NTU, NUS or SMU.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The award is open to Diploma graduates from the 5 Polytechnic institutions in Singapore (Nanyang Poly, Ngee Ann Poly, Republic Poly, Singapore Poly and Temasek Poly) who are Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents and will be matriculating into full-time undergraduate degree courses in NUS, NTU or SMU in Academic Year 2006-07. Applicants should have achieved outstanding results in their polytechnic courses (preferably Diploma with Merit) and have good co-curricular activity (CCA) records. Selection for the award is based on merit.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Please complete and send a copy of the application form , together with photocopies of the following:

1. Polytechnic Transcript
2. SAT Reasoning test score report (if any)
3. GCE 'O' level/ITE or equivalent results
4. Academic awards in school
5. Financial awards/scholarships held previously
6. Co-curricular activities

Any application submitted without the required documents or signature would be disqualified. Please note that late application will not be accepted.

APPLICATION PERIOD

Applications will close on 30 June 06. Strictly no extension of closing date.

INTERVIEW

Shortlisted candidates will be informed by telephone in July 2006 to be present for the selection interviews.. The interviews will be held around the 3 rd /4th week of July 2006.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF AWARD

The award consists of a one-off cash award of $3,500.

Holders of the award are allowed to hold concurrent scholarships offered by NTU, NUS and SMU or other organisations.

LKY-STEP AWARD holders who are unsuccessful in securing a concurrent scholarship will have their tuition fees waived by the universities. There will be no bond attached to the award
