| A. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) DUO FELLOWSHIP
This fellowship is offered by Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs once a year. It is meant for full-time SMU students applying for exchange with European partner universities that are members of ASEM, as well as outstanding students from universities in European ASEM countries. For more information on the eligibility criteria and application procedures,, please refer to www.mfa.gov.sg/duo/. Please take note that Iceland, Norway and Switzerland are not ASEM member countries.
The SMU DUO application is open ONCE a year from 11 January 2008 to 29 February 2008 for outbound students going for exchange in Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 (term 1 or term 2, 2008/2009).

For SMU outgoing exchange students, kindly provide:
All documents listed on the Checklist (which is found on the last page of the application form)
Original/certified copies of your immediate family members' latest Notice of Assessment from Singapore Inland Revenue Authority. (You can also submit your family member's pay slip or CPF statement as other supporting documents, but they should not serve as replacement for Notice of Assessment)
1 set of photocopies for all documents you're submitting
All SMU outgoing applicants need to show your original certificates for verification by OIR when you apply.
For incoming exchange students from Europe , kindly provide all documents (or the equivalent) listed on the Checklist. Please submit your application personally or by airmail to reach SMU Office of International Relations (OIR) by the deadline.
You will be notified of the application result at the end of May or early June. If you are successful in your application, DUO Fellowship will be credited into your account in two sums. The first sum will be disbursed 1-2 weeks after the commencement of the semester in SMU / partner universities. The remaining sum will be disbursed two months after the first disbursement. The details of which will be stated in the letter sent by MFA in June.
B. International Business Fellowship (IBF) Programme
The IBF programme (formerly known as the Asian Business Fellowship) is sponsored by International Enterprise (IE) Singapore & SMU. It aims to nurture a talent pool with in-depth knowledge of doing business in developing global markets.
Currently, it provides funding for SMU students who are selected for exchange programmes in China, Middle East, Russia and Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Peru). The subsidy amount is S$120 per week for the exchange semester, up to 16 weeks.
Application
Invitation to apply will be announced by Office of International Relations , after the result of exchange programme placement.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Full-time SMU undergraduates
- Singapore citizens or permanent residents
- Cumulative GPA not less than 2.50
- Proficient in Mandarin, minimum B4 grade for ‘O' level or ‘AO' level Chinese
(for exchange programmes in China)
- Have not been the subject of any disciplinary action in SMU
C. Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO )
For more information on this scholarship, please visit JASSO Short-Term Students Exchange Promotion Program. Application to the JASSO scholarship will only commence after a student is selected for exchange at a relevant Japanese partner university. Japanese language study in student's home university is NOT a prerequisite. SMU can only nominate a limited number of applicants for the scholarship, as
selected Japanese partners
are allocated a certain number of scholarships PER CONTINENT/REGION. It is competitive scheme.
D. City University Hong Kong Financial Aid
HK$5,000 (Approx. S$1,000) is awarded base on financial needs. Please submit your application after OIR has announced to you the offer of placement in City University.
E. Deloitte & Touche International Exchange Scholarship
Deloitte & Touche has setup an Exchange Scholarship Fund to assist needy local full-time BAcc students to fulfill their wishes of participating in an exchange programme overseas. Three scholarships are awarded annually, each valued at S$4,000. Please click here for details.
F. The SICC International Exchange Scholarship
This Scholarship is established by the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) to assist deserving full-time SMU undergraduate students to spend a semester of study in an overseas university. Please click here for details.
G. The Li & Fung Scholarship
The Li & Fung (1906) Foundation Ltd has established an endowment fund to support SMU undergraduate students who wish to pursue overseas exchange programme as well as Chinese mainland undergraduate students who wish to participate in the exchange programme at SMU.

H. Temasek Foundation- SMU Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking (LEaRN) Scholarship – NEW !
The Temasek Foundation- SMU Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking (LEaRN) Programme is funded by the Temasek Foundation. Aimed at grooming bright young Asian leaders from the region, the programme will send 40 SMU undergraduates of Asian nationalities for a semester of exchange in an Asian partner university. Similarly, 40 undergraduates from SMU 's Asian partner universities will spend a semester of studies in SMU . Please click here for more details.
I. SMU Overseas Student Programme Loan
The SMU Overseas Student Programme (OSP) Loan Scheme allows Singaporean students to gain international exposure and develop global mindset through participation in relevant programmes such as the International Student Exchange Programme & Summer Study Programme approved by SMU.
Conditions of Loan
- Each student is entitled to receive the OSP loan only once during his or her course of study at the University.
- If a student has received an OSP loan before, he or she may apply for other forms of financial assistance schemes available at the University for other approved OSPs.
- The student must not concurrently hold another loan, award, bursary or scholarship that covers the full costs of the OSP.
- If a student is already in receipt of a loan, award, bursary or scholarship that covers part of the expenses for the OSP, he or she may apply for the OSP loan to cover up to the remaining loan quantum for the OSP that is not covered by the concurrent loan, award, bursary or scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the loan, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Full-time undergraduate students in any field of study
- Singapore Citizens
- Obtained the University's approval to participate in a university-approved OSP
- Must fulfil the “Conditions of Loan” stated above
Quantum of Loan
- For International Exchange Programme, maximum amount of S$11,500.00
- For Summer Study Programme, maximum amount of S$8,000.00

J. Citibank Study Abroad Loan
The Citibank Study Abroad Loan with a quantum of up to S$10,000 is available to full-time SMU undergraduates. The loan is interest-bearing. However, during the student's course of study with SMU, interest will be paid by SMU. Repayment of the loan can be made by equal monthly installments one month after graduation date.
