Centre for Corporate and Investor Responsibility
 

The Centre for Corporate and Investor Responsibility (CCIR) aspires to be a premier research centre in the field of corporate governance and investor responsibility with participation from both academic researchers and practitioners. Its primary objectives are:

  • To produce and encourage high quality research, generate scholarly commentary, and promote discussion between the academic and business communities on best practices in corporate governance.
  • To develop a comprehensive and unbiased corporate governance index for companies listed in the Singapore Stock Exchange. Subsequently, this will be extended to other countries in Southeast Asia. Creating and maintaining the dataset that will provide the basis for the index will be part of this major endeavor.
  • To enhance the educational and research experience of SMU post-graduate by research students.

The Co-Directors of CCIR are Professors Foo See Liang and Jeremy Goh.

The research priorities of the Centre are:

  • Corporate Governance Practices of Singapore Companies
  • Corporate Finance (Share buyback, Special dividends, executive compensation)
  • Importance of Investor Relations
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Corporate governance index construction and use
  • Corporate governance and its impact on firm performance
  • Financial education and financial decision-making
  • Corporate governance – roles and perspectives of CEOs, CFOs and audit committees
  • Risk management – role of audit committees, risk governance, IT governance issues and challenges
