15 December 2011 American professor: Singapore can avoid asset bubble by imposing 10% additional stamp duty on foreigners
Dr Susan Wachter, Professor of Real Estate and Finance at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania reckoned that the higher stamp duty introduced by the Singapore government for the property sector would impact all buyers. As this measure is less targeted than conventional macro-prudential policies, buyers are likely to consider their decisions more carefully before investing in their next property. Professor Wachter made the above observations at a seminar on “Macro-Prudential Policy after the Great Recession” held at SMU, organised by SKBI on 14 Dec 2011.
