Message from the Director

SKBI supports Singapore 's ambition to be a major international financial centre and anchors SMU as a major think-tank on financial economics . It carries out academic and practical research and training in Financial Economics and Financial Econometrics that bridge the gaps between economics and finance, theory and practice, and science and policy.

Financial economics has long been a subject of critical importance. It has gained more prominence after the global financial crisis because the crisis has influenced research directions in financial economics and financial econometrics, the practice of investment strategies, risk management, macro and financial surveillance, and regulations, among many other things.

There is a wealth of knowledge worldwide waiting to be tapped in this area. SKBI aims to attract the best research talents from around the world and bring onboard industry partners to collaborate with our faculty. We hope to generate a valuable body of research that will not only bring about academic advancement, but will be useful for the industry and policy-making in Asia .

The Institute also encourages SMU students and faculty across the different Schools to collaborate with one another and with partners from the industry and the public sector. At the same time, the Institute looks to other academic institutions to further enrich the capabilities and potential of SKBI.
