Recent Highlights
SMU Board of Trustees member Timothy Chia pledges S$500,000 for endowed scholarship in honour of late father
Mr Timothy Chia Chee Ming, a member of the SMU's Board of Trustees and Chairman, Hup Soon Global Corporation Limited pledged an endowed gift of S$500,000 toward the Charlie Chia Cheng Guan Scholarship, established in honour of his late father. His late father was deprived of the opportunity to further his studies when he was young, hence he understood how important it is for motivated students to realise their aspirations and potential through tertiary education. It is thus Mr Timothy Chia's hope that setting up this scholarship in his late father's honour would enable more deserving students to benefit from the experience and quality undergraduate programmes that SMU offers.

Donor Appreciation Tea
On 10 February 2012, donors and scholars gathered for a Donor Appreciation Tea session. This was an opportunity for the scholars to show their appreciation for the support and generosity of our benefactors as well as a platform for them to share their learning journeys and on how the scholarships have made an impact on their undergraduate lives.

GEOK-ENG Scholarship Appreciation Lunch
The family of the Keng Soon Group, comprising of SMU alumnus Donovan Tan, contributed an endowed gift of S$550,000 toward the GEOK-ENG Scholarship, established in memory of the late Mr Tan Cheng Geok and Mdm Seah Siew Eng, the grandparents of Donovan. The family hopes that this gift will inspire recipients of the GEOK-ENG Scholarship to give back to the community in the future.

Sing Lun Scholars launch book on TCM soup recipes in aid of Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital
On 9 January 2012, a group of Sing Lun scholars launched a book on nourishing Traditional Chinese Medicine soup recipes, put together in consultation with TCM physicians. With the objective of giving back to the community, the scholars embarked on this project to help raise funds for the hospital and at the same time, mentored a group of secondary school students in setting up a social enterprise. Donors and invited guests gathered at the Sing Lun Seminar Room for a hearty serving of nourishing soup.
