SMU Merit Award
 

The SMU Merit Award is available to local and foreign undergraduates studying full-time at the Singapore Management University.

The Awards , each valued at up to $5,000 per year, is tenable for the duration of the recipients' studies (up to four years), subject to good academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time SMU first year undergraduate students of any nationality pursuing any programme of study in SMU
  • Excellent academic results
  • Good record of CCA and/or community service
  • Good character records
  • Preference for students with financial needs

Tenure and Benefits of the Merit Award

  • Each SMU Merit Award, valued at up to $5,000 per year, is tenable for up to four years of studies, subject to good academic performance.

    The Award offers financial support as follows:

    (a) Annual living allowance of $2,500

    (b) The balance of $2,500 may be used once, during the tenure of the award, for each of the following on a reimbursement basis:

    (i) Purchase of a notebook computer
    (ii) University-approved study trips such as overseas student exchange programmes, business study missions, summer study programmes, etc.
    (iii) Participation in approved overseas conferences/seminars.
    (iv) Overseas internship or community service attachment.
  • No bond is required under the terms of this Study Award

Tuition Grant Scheme

  • Award recipients are required to take advantage of the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) provided by the Singapore Government for subsidized education.
  • Under the TGS, non-Singaporean students will be obligated to work in Singapore for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.
