The University Study Awards, contributed anonymously by SMU faculty and staff, and other well wishers, are given with the aim of encouraging full-time undergraduates to strive for academic and professional excellence.

Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded annually, each valued at $5,000 and tenable for one year. Scholars who performed well in their first year of studies may vie for other SMU-administered scholarships in subsequent years.

Eligibility Criteria

• Full-time first year undergraduates of any nationality pursuing any undergraduate programme in SMU
• Good academic results
• Good CCA records and/or community service
• Good character and leadership qualities
• Preference may be given to applicants with demonstrated financial need

Tenure and Benefits of the Scholarship

• The University Study Award is tenable for one year.
• The scholarship is valued at $5,000 of which $1,000 may be used for the purchase of a notebook computer (on a reimbursement basis).
• No bond is required under the terms of this scholarship

Tuition Grant Scheme

• Award recipients are required to take advantage of the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) provided by the Singapore Government for subsidized education.
• Under the TGS, non-Singaporean students will be obligated to work in Singapore for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.
