Computer/Notebook Loans
 
SMU students are strongly encouraged to purchase their own notebook PC from the SMU PC Tender as the awarded PC models have been tested rigorously for stability and compatibility with the campus network, the University's applications and software.

The following schemes are available to assist full-time needy SMU undergraduate students in their purchase.

SMU Computer Loan
Quantum
  • Newly admitted students: Up to $2,500
  • Second to Final Year Students: Up to $2,000
Eligibility
  • Full-time undergraduate students
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents 
  • Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial needs
  • Students may receive only one such loan under the University's computer/notebook financing scheme during their course of studies.
Guarantor
  • Must be between 21 and 60 years of age
  • Not an undischarged bankrupt
Interest Interest-free
Repayment
  • Loan quantum between $2,000 and $2,500 - Repayment by lump sum or monthly installments (minimum $75) with first installment payment to be made within six months after graduation.
  • Loan quantum up to $2,000 - Repayment by lump sum or monthly installments (minimum $60) with first installment payment to be made within six months after graduation.
  • Maximum repayment period of 30 months.
  • Repay in full if student withdraws.

Citibank Notebook Loan

Quantum
Up to $2,000
Eligibility
  • Full-time undergraduate students of SMU
  • Not an undischarged bankrupt
  • Each of whose parents shall not have income exceeding $2,499 per month or $29,999 per annum
Guarantor

If student applicant is a Singapore citizen, the guarantor must be:

  • between 21 and 60 years of age;
  • is not an undischarged bankrupt; and
  • is a Singapore Citizen or a Singapore Permanent Resident

If student applicant is a non-Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident, the guarantor must be:

  • between 21 and 60 years of age;
  • is not an undischarged bankrupt; and
  • need not be a Singapore Citizen or a Singapore Permanent Resident. However, in such circumstance, the indemnity must be executed in the presence of a notary public or commissioner for oath.
Interest Interest-bearing. However, SMU will bear the interest during the student's course of study.
Repayment
  • Repayment by installment (minimum $50) or lump sum one month after the loan drawn-down date.
  • Maximum repayment period of 3 years.
  • Repay in full if student withdraws.
