Bursaries

For undergraduate students with financial needs, the following bursary schemes are available.


CDC/CCC-University Bursary
The CDC/CCC-University Bursary is a scheme for needy students. It is co-funded by the Government, Community Development Council (CDC) and Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC).
Quantum
$1,600 (tenable for 1 year)
Eligibility
  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Singapore Citizen
  • Monthly gross household per capita (average) income of no more than $500
  • Student in receipt of CDC/CCC-University Bursary can hold additional bursary from the University, if he/she is assessed to be in need for financial aid.  However, student should not be in receipt of other university scholarship or study grant.
Repayment No repayment required. However, the bursary must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws from studies or studies terminated.

MOE Bursary
Funded by the Government, the bursary scheme is available to undergraduate students of Singaporean nationality meeting the following eligibility criteria.
Quantum
Tier 1: $1,200 (tenable for 1 year)
Tier 2: $800 (tenable for 1 year)
Eligibility
  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Singapore Citizen
  • Tier 1: Monthly gross household per capita (average) income of no more than $1,200
  • Tier 2: Monthly gross household per capita (average) income of between $1,201 and $1,700
  • Must not concurrently hold other scholarship, study award/grant or bursary
Repayment No repayment required. However, the bursary must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws from studies or studies terminated.

  • Bi-annual application exercise: 15 July 2010 to 31 August 2010 and 1 November 2010 to 30 November 2010 (eligible applicant is entitled to receive the bursary once only during the academic year)

MOE Short-Term Study Assistance Scheme
Funded by the Government, the MOE SSAS seeks to assist Singaporean students from families facing financial difficulties in this economic downturn, to better cope with their costs of education.

Quantum
Up to $1,100
Eligibility
  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Singapore Citizen
  • Monthly gross household per capita (average) income of no more than $1,700
  • Tuition fees payable are fully funded by one or a combination of the available financing schemes, namely Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA), CPF Education Scheme, Tuition Fee Loan, Study Loan and Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy for Malays
  • Must have taken up the annual living allowance of $3,600 under the Study Loan scheme
  • Must have taken up the SMU Bursary, SMU Financial Grant, MOE Bursary, donated bursary, or any other bursaries offered by external organisations in the year of application
  • Student in receipt of scholarship may be considered on a case-by-case basis

A Singaporean student with monthly gross household per capita (average) income of no more than $500 should apply for the CDC/CCC-University Bursary. In the event the application is unsuccessful, he/she may apply for the MOE SSAS.

Repayment No repayment required. However, the MOE SSAS must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws from studies or studies terminated.

SMU Bursary
The scheme is available to needy full-time SMU undergraduate students.
Quantum
Up to $750 (tenable for 1 year)
Eligibility
  • Needy full-time undergraduate student who has used all available loan schemes or subsidies up to 90% of the tuition fees payable by Singaporean students
  • Monthly gross household per capita (average) income of no more than $1,700 (Singapore Citizen/Permanent Resident) and $1,200 (student of foreign nationality) or evidence of family financial difficulties
  • Student in receipt of scholarship, study award/grant or bursary may be considered only on a case-by-case basis
Repayment No repayment required. However, the bursary must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws or studies terminated.

SMU Financial Grant
The Scheme seeks to assist needy newly admitted undergraduate students in coping with their educational expenses.
Quantum
Up to $2,000 (tenable for 1 year)
Eligibility
  • Needy full-time first year undergraduate student who has used all available loan schemes or subsidies up to 90% of the tuition fees payable by Singaporean students
  • Monthly gross household per capita (average) income of no more than $1,700 (Singapore Citizen/Permanent Resident) and $1,200 (student of foreign nationality) or evidence of family financial difficulties
  • Student in receipt of scholarship, study award/grant or bursary  may be considered only on a case-by-case basis
Repayment No repayment required. However, the grant must be refunded in part or in full if the student withdraws or studies terminated.
