Welcome to the first issue of ExecEd News

Dear friends,

To inculcate the value of lifelong learning & training and foster an environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, the Office of Executive Education was set up by the university in 2000 to establish linkages with the industry and to create relevant training for professional development of executives.

Much has been devoted to this effort and we are pleased to present to you a summary of our fruitful endeavors with our partners, clients and business associates for 2002. We hope you'll enjoy reading this e-newsletter and we welcome any suggestions you may have on making this into a delightful read for everyone.

With warmest wishes,

The Institution of Engineers, Singapore Partners with Singapore Management University to Launch First Technology Management Series

The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), and Singapore Management University (SMU) signed a memorandum of understanding (‘MOU’) to establish their collaborative efforts in the development and delivery of a series of Technology Management Executive Programmes on 27 August 2002. The ceremony was officiated by Teo Ming Kian, Chairman, Economic Development Board. This is the first time IES, which conducts regular technical skills upgrading courses, is offering its members structured programmes focused on management and business skills training. This new executive education series will equip IES members with critical management tools to ensure that they have the right combination of technological know-how and business savvy to succeed in today’s fast-moving commercial environment.

The inaugural Chief Technology Officer Programme will be launched from 6 to 8 November on SMU Bukit Timah campus. It aims to equip CTOs and senior management with the latest concepts and applications in the field of technology management. Topics include Corporate Technology Strategies, Management of Research & Development and Management of Innovations.

Two other programmes are scheduled in 2003: Hi-Tech Marketing for Technology Managers (27 - 28 Feb); and Financial Strategies for Technology Managers (14 - 15 Aug).

Details and online registration for the CTO programme are available on our website www.smu.edu.sg or email execed@smu.edu.sg
